Juneteenth Film Festival showcases the finest feature films to promote talent and creative outpouring of artists. It brings to the forefront works of independent and student filmmakers throughout the United States.

The Juneteenth Film Festival Foundation, a Texas non- profit corporation, and the African American Museum have joined to create a world- class event for which Dallas can be proud!

The winners are honored by a hand crafted bronze statue designed by famed artist David Newton renowned for his artistic sculpture in Dallas Freedom Memorial.

The origin of Juneteenth can be traced back to June 19, 1865, a historic day when African slaves were emancipated from their bondage after the Civil War came to an end. Slaves all over Texas celebrated this event by jubilations. With the passage of time a group of people collected funds to purchase land where they could host their celebration.
